Spring Clean 🌸 Your Financial House

Hi! 👋🏽 👋🏽

Welcome to the UNSTUCK[MONEY] newsletter!

It's May and time for spring cleaning. It's the perfect time to deep clean your financial house and get it in order for the remainder of the year. Leaning in to optimal financial organization can save you money, prevent unnecessary spending, and reduce fines and penalties resulting from late payments.

Getting your finances organized might not sound exciting—but it is a game-changer. When you know exactly how much money you have, where it’s sitting, and what bills are coming up (and when), you’re not just surviving—you’re taking control. It means fewer surprises and way less stress when life throws you a curveball.

Start by pulling everything together. That means all your important documents, account info, and the contact details for any financial companies or service providers you use. The goal? Have everything in one place so you're not scrambling when you need it.

Next, take a look at your cash flow. How does your money move—from paycheck to bills, savings, or spending? Being aware of where your money goes and when it leaves your account helps you spot patterns, plug leaks, and stay on top of your financial goals.

One easy win? Set up your bank accounts to automate bill payments. It’s one less thing to think about, and it helps you avoid late fees. Tools like Rocket Money, Monarch, and others can even send you reminders or track when bills are paid so nothing slips through the cracks.

If you want a quick snapshot of your whole money picture, consider using a financial dashboard. It’s a great way to see everything at a glance—and it can help you catch anything weird, like duplicate charges or fraud, before it becomes a big issue.

As for organizing your documents, you’ve got options. You can go old-school with labeled file folders for things like insurance, medical bills, and loan info—just keep them somewhere secure, like a fireproof safe. Or you can keep it digital with cloud storage, which is handy if you want to access things from anywhere.

At the end of the day, the “right” system is the one that works for you. Whether it’s paper, digital, or a mix of both, having your financial stuff in order gives you peace of mind—and that’s priceless.

It’s not just about being bad with money. It’s about being stuck in a cycle of fear and shame. It’s about having your self-worth wrapped around your paycheck (or lack of one).

Stop Ghosting Your Bills: Confronting the Mail that Haunts Your Inbox

Money mail anxiety is the deep, gnawing fear of opening anything that might confirm your worst financial fears. It’s rooted in shame. It feeds on silence. And it’s a liar.
